Battery powered wearables and fitness devices are typically very compact in size and have limited battery capacities. These devices must use high efficiency power conversion to maximize user time between charging cycles. For products with input power ports to connect battery charging devices, internal load circuit switching and power port protection are required.
Buck and Boost Converters
Set-top box and audio products AC/DC power supplies do not always provide specific voltage rails needed by application circuits. A voltage regulators allow device main voltage rails to be stepped up or down at the point of load for specific application circuits.
For light load current requirements, a dual output linear regulator provide a compact low cost voltage regulation solution.
When high power conversion efficiency is desired, a DC/DC switching regulator can be a better choice. DC/DC switching regulators are available for voltage step-up and step-down applications.

Set-top box and Audio products often need internal voltage rail on/off control to reduce standby or shutdown state power consumption or to enable/disable specific function circuits while the device is operating.
Integrated load switches provide simplified microcontroller I/O controlled power switching to eliminate the need for bias and level shift circuits associated with discrete MOSFET switches.
Load switches also provide slew rate limited turn on and shutdown mode reverse current blocking.
Set-top box and audio equipment use multicolor RGB LEDs for function indicator lamps. Indicator lamps show power on or signal connection conditions on devices that use LCD displays. For devices without displays, indicator lamps are needed to show power and all device function status.
